Changes Coming

Hello all,
As I was checking may facebook account I noticed a link from a local television station that was wanting opinions on an ongoing issue in the state of South Carolina. The state has a problem with obesity and they are toying with the idea of limiting what the state's recipients of food stamps will be able to purchase in an effort to try to reduce the number of overweight people in the state. They wanted to know if the general public felt that was a good idea or is it just a way to pick on the less fortunate?

Personally I feel that it is a good idea. I think that the persons who receive food stamps should be able to use those for what i would consider "staple" items such as: bread, milk, cereal, lunch meats, flour, eggs, etc. I do not think that the stamps should be used for items such as shrimp, lobster, steaks or for heat and eat items such as hot pockets etc. Those items are expensive and are not healthy as well as my experience with most recipients is that they do not have a job and have more than enough time to cook a meal using fresh ingredients so that is what they should be required to do. If a person who works 40 plus hours a week cannot afford to eat lobster and crab legs then someone who is not working should not be able to dine that way. in my world as a working student those items are considered for special occasions only.  I also think that the WIC program would use an overhaul as well. I think that there should not be any funds allocated for formula unless you have a medical condition such as HIV that prevents you from breastfeeding. There is too much money being put into the hand of folks that just don't want to be bothered. If you aren't working you have plenty of time to breastfeed your child which had been proven to be the best for the mother as well as the child. This would also cut down on the obesity issue therefor saving the state millions on medicaid and medicare.

The reports on the meeting last night are that the people are very upset about any changes that would restrict what they can buy and if that wasn't expected they are asking that the list be expanded to include toilet paper. Can you believe that? hi understand that there are people who are really having a hard time but there are folks that have been on the system for years even when things were going good for them so in my eyes there has to be some changes made. People are too concerned with pleasure and not with responsibility. Making changes to the food stamp program will benefit both the state of South Carolina as well as the recipients.

No Help

Hello fellow working students!  Do you ever become frustated during the your time spent at work whn thinking abput all of the things that you have to do or complete for school? I am in my second year of studies for my degree in Paralegal Technology and I often have this feeling. I also have feelings of this is not fair, i am not getting any support from my employer, im tired because i have had to stay up all night studying or finishing homework.

This is the case most of last semester especially since i was not able to get any help from my employer by way of a schedule change which only added to my frustations. Is there anyone else that has this issue or any others such as not abing able to get enough grant money to cover tuition as well as books?  I would love to hear from you.
